This is an original Edwardian / Art Nouveaucast iron fireplace surround with a broad, projecting mantel shelf and slender uprights framing the opening. The wide panel beneath the shelf has a moulded lower edge that rises into a shallow central arch, with a smaller decorative panel below. Each upright carries raised floral decoration, with a prominent flower head above trailing stems and leaves, ending in a plain block foot.

The dark finish has lighter metallic highlights across the mouldings and raised decoration, bringing out the contrast between the broad, plain surfaces and the finer details of the casting. The repeated floral pattern gives the surround a balanced appearance, while the gently curved centre softens its strong horizontal and vertical lines.

It would make a distinctive focal point in a lounge, combining substantial proportions with delicate decorative detail. The surround bears registration number 431279.
