This is an original Victorian arched cast-iron insert for a bedroom, with a tall rectangular outer plate and a rounded opening framed by several bands of moulding. The broad outer arch carries repeating circular motifs set within square panels, separated by small geometric details. A finer patterned border follows the inner opening, while a wide, plain band between the two gives the decoration space and definition.

The dark finish has a metallic sheen across the flat upper plate and raised edges, contrasting with the darker recessed interior. Horizontal front bars project forward above a shaped lower rail decorated with small roundels and closely spaced vertical lines. A small central ornament is also visible on the curved panel within the opening. The upright proportions and repeated arched outlines give the insert a balanced appearance, with the casting providing decorative detail for a traditional bedroom setting.
