Original Victorian Cast Iron Fireplace Surround - Suitable for Log Burner
This is an original Victorian cast iron fireplace surround with Registered Design number 4862 dating it to 1884 and an elegant classical decorative design.
The central frieze features an urn surrounded by scrolling foliage and floral decoration, with further urn and flower motifs to the upper sections of the side columns. Rosette details and long fluted panels continue down the uprights, while the deep moulded mantelpiece and stepped base give the surround strong, well-balanced proportions.
The black cast iron finish brings out the crisp detail of the decoration particularly well. This is an attractive original surround for anyone looking for a decorative Victorian cast iron mantel rather than a complete fireplace.
